About The Position:
The Village of Tularosa is seeking a dedicated and experienced law enforcement professional for its next Chief of Police. Successful candidate will be required to be a working Chief of Police, to work as an active officer on duty including observation of the activities of the Village throughout various times of day to assess law enforcement needs. Successful candidates must be able to perform administrative and technical skilled duties related to planning, organizing, directing, staffing, and coordinating police services. The Chief of Police reports directly to the Mayor. An associates degree in police science, criminal justice or related field is required. A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position will be accepted on a year-for-year basis. Advanced leadership training such as FBI National Academy, Staff and Command, Senior Management Institute Police (SMIP) or equivalent is preferred. The Chief of Police shall have a New Mexico Law Enforcement Certification or the ability to obtain a certification by waiver (CBW) within 6 months of appointment.
Under the general direction of the Village Mayor, directs and administers the activities of the Police Department. Functions as the primary advisor to the Mayor and Village Board of Trustees with regard to police and public safety affairs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of sergeants, patrol officers, dispatchers, and other assigned police department staff
- Ensure adherence to department policies, procedures, and applicable laws
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide mentorship and training
- Respond to major incide nts and assume command when appropriate
- Assist in planning, developing, and implementing department initiatives
- Collaborate with other local, state, and federal agencies as needed
- Serve as a liaison between Village Mayor and department personnel
- Support community outreach and engagement programs
- Position is a working supervisory position; will be required to patrol and enforce laws
- Will respond to calls for service and be required to investigate, charge, and prosecute cases.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current New Mexico Law Enforcement Certification preferred or have the ability to obtain certification and must meet the specific requirements to obtain a CBW (Certification by Waiver) within 6 months’ time from date of hire.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive law enforcement experience
- Must have prior supervisory experience
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Valid New Mexico Driver’s License or ability to obtain one
- High school diploma or GED

SEP Program Driver
The Tularosa Senior Center is hiring a SEP Program Driver. This position is a non-supervisory position that reports to the Senior Center Director, and will have frequent contact with senior citizens, other Village departments and the general public.
SEP Program Requirements:
- Be 55 years old or older
- Receive an income of 125% of the federal poverty level or less, which depends on family size (not all income is included, but all income must be reported)
- Reside legally in New Mexico, and be legally eligible to work in the U.S.
- Be unemployed; and
- Not have participated in the SEP for more than 48 months since July 1, 2007.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Deliver meals to home bound consumers
- Help maintain a clean facility
- Assists in the dining room and kitchen as needed.
- Other duties as needed
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds
- Current NM Driver’s License and good driving record
- Ability to follow policies and procedures as required by the Older American’s Act, NCNMEDD, Area Agency on Aging Village of Tularosa and Tularosa Senior Program.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Good communication, time management and organization skills
- Ability to pass the course to receive and Food Handler’s Certificate
